Once a month, a small group of my design friends – affectionately called the “Pow-wini’s” – meet to share stories, provide support and generally consume a lot of wine & yummy food. The other night was no different. One of our topics du jour was inspiration…where we found out and how we harnessed it. Here are some of my favorite resources for fresh imagery and inspiration…
My client Amanda turned me on to this site and I’ve quickly fallen in love. It’s FULL of eye candy, organized in a neat way and you can not-so-secretly stalk your style icons. Fun stuff, but be warned…you’ll become a pinning machine! You can see the beginnings of my board collection here.
My Google Reader
This has become my modern version of the encyclopedia set my grandparents had in their library. I reference it daily and am always finding someone new, cool and creative that inspires me.
Ok, I’ll admit that I get to look at these less and less with Evan in the picture, but I’m a bit of a paper hoarder and save all the best ones. I’ve currently got a hefty stash of Dominos (every.single.one), Martha Stewart Weddings, HOW design, Metropolis and Lucky magazines awaiting my attention. I’ll get there…I promise 😉
My Idea ToolBox
I will be the first person to admit I was a slow adapter to photoshop…coming from a print background, I was a hard-core Illustrator girl. Photoshop always felt like a “photo-editing” program, and a daunting one at that. But over the years I’ve embraced the PSD and it’s now my primary design tool. These sites offer an amazing array of free and practically free imagery that helps elevate my designs. Take a look!
