Design + Decor: Blue Day Designs

by Cat on February 1, 2011

I think every child should have a portrait of themselves…whether it’s their own crayon scrawled rendition or something commissioned by an artist.  Emma Corcoran of Blue Day Designs transforms adorable children’s portraits into edgy works of art.  Wouldn’t you love one of these hanging in the nursery or office?  You can see more of her amazing work  here.

I’m Emma Corcoran, the artist behind Blue Day Designs. I have a degree in classical music, but have always had an interest in the visual arts.  I create my portraits by using hand-cut stencils, or by getting images professionally (giclee) printed onto canvas.  I use bold colors and strong contrasts to create portraits of any size – from mini portraits you can carry around in your handbag to large 40” artworks that are a feature in any home.

After a chronic illness left me house bound and unable to continue my work as a piano teacher, I channeled my creativity in a new way and started Blue Day Designs.  I love creating children’s portraits for the same reason I loved teaching piano – I want to help children feel special. I’m proud to be able to connect with children and families all over the world through my artwork. I take a great deal of care and time over my portraits. I enjoy the interaction with my customers and work closely with them to come up with a portrait they will (hopefully!) have for their whole lives, and their children’s life too.
