A beret is basically made of a couple circles and a band. You can either sew this by hand or by machine.

The band
Measure the circumference of your head.

Cut a 2” wide strip of fabric as long as your head circumference plus ½ inch.

The two circles

Draw a circle with a circumference that equals to your head circumference on a pattern paper.

Draw a second circle 2 ½ inches outside the original circle.

Cut out two large circles from your fabric and remove the inner circle from one of them using your head circumference pattern (forming a “donut”).

Start sewing

Fold the band in half and sew the short ends, right sides together, with a ¼” seam allowance.

Sew the band to the edge of the inner circle of the “donut”, right sides together, with a ¼” seam allowance.

Sew the top piece to the donut piece around the outer edge, right sides together, with ¼” seam allowance.

Turn the beret right side out and you are done!
